Author Romantics believe that the entire soul is revealed by gazing into someone’s eyes. Now iridologists have gone one step further. When they look into your eyes, they see your entire health status mapped out before them, and can ascertain whether you are suffering from heart disease, muscular problems or just plain old diarrhea.
Iridology posits that there’s more than meets the eye with regards to one’s health.
Real doctors believe that only a few diseases can be by looking into your eye, including (not surprisingly) certain eye conditions such as a detached retina. But people who practice iridology, or iris diagnosis, believe that the eye reveals much, much more.
In fact, some iridologists believe they are 99 percent accurate in detecting cancer anywhere in the body, and that they can even tell when someone is about to die – all by looking into the eyes. They make such a claim because they believe that each part of the body is represented by an area in the eye, and when that body part gets sick, the corresponding part of the eye is affected as well.
Many also believe that the markings in the eye, specifically around the iris, tell an iridologist not only about current illnesses and disease, but also about past illnesses – and even ones you are likely to get in future. Iridologists believe that changes in the iris can appear before other physical symptoms develop, so iridology is seen not only as a diagnostic tool, but a preventative one as well.
Origin of Iridology
Iridology began, so the story goes, with one Dr Ignatz von Peczely, a Hungarian who had the childhood misfortune of accidentally breaking the leg of an owl in his back garden when he was just 11 years of age ( he was trying to free it from shrubbery, a twisted vine or a tree – the exact place is unclear). Young Ignatz was traumatized by the incident, so much that he looked into the owl’s eyes. It was then he noticed that a dark stripe was developing in the owl’s iris.
Conscientious Ignatz nursed the owl back to health, as one does, and let it fly free. Of course the bird stuck around, and later Iggy noticed that the bird’s iris had changed once it had healed. When he grew up and became a doctor (Ignatz, not the owl), he developed the world’s first iridology chart. This chart, crafted more than 150 years ago, is considered the birth of iridology, as we know it.
What an Iridologist Does
A session with an iridologist usually begins by the brandishing of the instruments of the trade, which can include a magnifying glass, flashlight, cameras, microscopes and eye gouging knives and scalpels (just kidding). Their examination of a patient’s eye involves looking for changes in the eye tissue, as well as looking for irregular coloring and patterns.

Leucomalachite green (LMG) color test: This chemical reagent has been around since the early part of the 20th century and undergoes a chemical interaction with blood, yielding a characteristic green color.
Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) color test: At a crime scene, a CSI technician swabs a suspected bloodstain with a moistened Q-tip and then applies it to a Hemastix strip containing TMB. A Hemastix strip is a dip stick used to test for the presence of blood. If the Hemastix strip turns blue-green, it might be blood.

Confront your clients in an optimistic frame of mind. Express your confidence that you will be able to solve the client’s problem. Say, for example, “I’m sure that we will be able to agree on a solution that is suitable for both sides.” It is important for the continuation of a good business relationship that you always end a discussion about complaints on a positive note.
Don’t put up with everything! Despite the understanding you may have for a complaining client, sometimes you need to apply the emergency brakes. If the client confronts you with a massive reproach – e.g. “You’ve cheated us!”, or “Your products are rubbish!” or “Your company is not reliable!”, you need to first of all talk about the feelings that have triggered these outbursts in the client.
The client’s outburst consists of two elements: a factual statement and a personal reproach. Make a conscious effort to move from the factual to the relationship level: “That is a strong accusation you’re making. I take that personally.” By reacting in a ‘controlled emotional’ way like this, you put the client in their place without them being insulted.
The client will then normally adopt a reconciliatory tone and indirectly apologise. This way, emotions will have been removed from the discussion and you can go on to discuss the factual heart of the complaint. It can be problematic, however, if angry clients forget their manners and become abusive. Register the client’s reaction silently as a sign of over-excitement and a cry for help.
The client is convinced that they are correct in making the complaint. If you also then react rudely, you will only provoke further complaints. Furthermore, the client will never buy from your company again and will use every future opportunity to badmouth your company.
Tip: Talk to the client about their concerns in a friendly way and ask for details. By tackling the complaint in a polite way and not becoming abusive, you are taking away the customer’s ‘moral’ justification to continue behaving unreasonably. This is an important technique as covered on sales training courses. Encourage the customer to talk, do not fall into the trap of making excuses.
How to take control of angry clients:
If you have an angry client on the phone, take deep breaths and do not allow yourself to become tense. This way you will keep a clear head and can think and argue logically.
Do not grind your teeth – instead, relax your facial muscles, shoulders and neck. If you have your body under control, you can also control your answers and remain business-like. Speak calmly and coolly with the complaining client. The more irritated your voice sounds, the more aggressive the client will become. If you raise your voice you will only be increasing the amount of tension inside you. You will calm the customer down if you respond in a pleasant manner,.
Note down the details of what the client is complaining about. That will help you to concentrate on the factual questions rather than getting angry at the client. At the same time you must make it clear to the client that you are taking their complaint very seriously.
Show the client that you are prepared to investigate their complaint. Mention the client’s name when speaking to them. Deal with them in a business-like way and ask questions.

Hemoglobin and Blood Cell Count Tests – The Basics
When your blood is drawn and sent to a laboratory for testing, a specially trained lab tech will test your blood. Lab techs typically have either a Bachelor’s college degree in Medical Technology, or an Associate’s degree. To be certified, they must take and pass a national examination. A phlebotomist (blood drawer) or a lab aide will typically draw your blood. Sometimes a nurse will draw your blood and send it to the lab for testing.
The most common blood test that doctors order is called the CBC-the Complete Blood Count. Some labs refer to it as an ABC-Automated Blood Count. The lab counts the cells in your blood-the red cells (RBC’s), white cells (WBC’s), and platelets. This is done in the Hematology department of the lab with sophisticated machines that the lab techs run, maintain, and troubleshoot.
Normal values given here are average ranges. Different laboratories use different methods, yielding slightly different results.
The CBC (ABC) consists of the following tests:
Red Blood Cell count (RBC count). Normal value for males is 4.2-5.6 million/mcl of blood. Normal value for females is 3.9-5.2 million/mcl of blood.
Hemoglobin (hgb). This is a protein in rbc’s that binds oxygen to carry the oxygen throughout the body. Normal value for males is 14-18 grams/dl of blood. Normal value for females is 12-16 grams/dl of blood.
Hematocrit (hct). This is the percentage of red cells in your blood. About half of your blood is a liquid called plasma made up mostly of water, and the other half is cells. Most of these cells are red cells, which give your blood its red color. If your hct is low, you are anemic. Normal value for males is 40-54%. Normal for females is 37-47%. If your hct is about 40%, that means about 60% of your circulating blood is plasma.
White Blood Cell count (WBC count). Normal value is 5,000-10,000 white blood cells/mcl of blood.
Differential-a lab tech differentiates the five types of WBC’s. The percentage of certain types of WBC’s is higher in bacterial infections, other types are higher with allergies or parasitic infections, and another type is higher with viral infections. Today, this is usually done by a machine, but if the machine finds anything abnormal, a lab tech will recheck it under a microscope before reporting out a final result.
Platelet count-counts the number of platelets in your bloodstream, which help function in the clotting process. Platelets are very tiny-the smallest of the blood cells. Normal range is 130,000-400,000/mcl of blood.
